Black History Month Portraits

Students in 7th and 8th grade classes spent the month of February representing the accomplishments of young African-Americans through portraiture.

To show the values in the portrait subjects' faces, students used either collaged magazine pieces or scratchboards.

Many students chose to portray the three woman who founded the Black Lives Matter movement.

While others paid tribute to young black athletes.

8th graders Esha and Sheeza were very precise in their scratchboard portrait of young activist Ruby Bridges.
